INTRODUCTIONS

Results of first group work activity.

1. Do you use CALL? If so, how? Since when?
2. What benefits do you think it can offer?
3. Why are you here? What do you hope to learn during these workshops?

Group 1

1. All use call since 2010
2. Excite sts; Produces native accents for sts; enhances independent learning; less tiresome for teacher
3. We hope to develop knowledge and skills

Group 2

1. All except 1 use it in 2 ways: take engineering sts to labs (audio texts sometimes online); in free time use computer to listen to audio texts online – to improve our language and communicate with others
2. How to use computer/tech for learning
3. Expectataions: new ideas about using CALL to help sts use it better, to communicate with people in other parts of the world, to use

Group 3

1. Yes and no: yes, supplementing classroom with web-based activities (add-on for listening, pronunciation), but no because we don’t have any courses designed to be assisted with computers
2. Authentic materials, authentic reading mats, learn by discovering themselves – get away from teachers; motivation (though sts may lack basic computer skills); facilitating language and culture learning; independent learning-the more they do it, the more they want to do it, even in their own free time (life skills)
3. Expectations: linking learners in diff contexts; planning and designing tasks; how to integrate online activities to implement course objectives, fill the gap between classroom and lab

Group 4

1. Yes, how? Browsing, accessing mats
2. Makes learning easy, digital – can see it again and again, different ways of learning, its relaxing, pronunciation, enhances independent learning
3. Maximize experience in using CALL; learn how to develop blogs and other softwares, how to use them with sts, enhance technical capacity using CALL

Group 5
1. All use CALL – take sts to the lab, they listen like the others said, once a wk, starting 2010, practice; teachers themselves use the Internet, emails and attachments
2. Benefits? What others have said, plus interaction with authentic texts, real situations, very engaging, better correspondence with native speakers and culture; any time, any place reach many sts – help deal with large class size
3. Still need more technical skills

Group 6 (two from engineering)

Share same answers with other groups so just stress a few points:
1. Yes, also testing, training manuals, materials, etc.
2. Help with sharing resources, data collection, collaborative work, knowledge transfer, helps to find out more about modern FLT, new software, employment opportunities; social networking
3. New principles and theories of CALL, how to use CALL more, share
